Check Your Backlinks With A Manual Expert Audit

Table of Contents

Most backlink checker tools hand you a number, a score, and a long list of links. Then they stop.

That number will not tell you if your backlink profile is safe. It will not tell you which links help you rank. And it will not tell you what to fix first.

We work another way. An SEO expert reads your backlink data and checks each metric by hand. Then we tell you exactly what to do next.

A free backlink checker can pull your links in seconds. That part is easy, and the best SEO tools do it well.

The hard part is judgment. Here are two sites that link to us.

  • Navs.site scores DR 67. It gets zero organic traffic and ranks for zero keywords. Ahrefs has flagged it as spam.
  • Vadoo.tv scores DR 70. It pulls 86,586 visits a month and ranks for 1,616 keywords.

Three points apart. A tool sorts them side by side.

Google knows the difference. So does AI search.

That is why every audit is manual. We look at context, not just counts. A number tells you what you have. An expert tells you what it is worth.

Here is what we review by hand when we check your backlinks.

DR Rating of Every Referring Domain

We start with the DR rating. It shows the strength of each site that links to you.

But a high DR site with no topical fit is still a weak link. And DR, Moz DA and Semrush Authority Score each measure something different, so we never trust one alone.

Top Pages and Top Keywords

Next we open the top pages of each linking domain and check what those pages rank for. It answers one question fast. Does this site pull real search traffic? Strong metrics with no ranking pages is a red flag.

Then we check the link ratio. How many links come in? How many go out?

A site that links out to hundreds of thousands of pages is a link farm. The ratio gives it away.

Take two of our own referring domains.

  • Cloudways.com has 31,772 domains linking in and links out to 2,856.
  • Viesearch.com has 3,424 linking in and links out to 623,517. That is 182 times more links out than in.

Spam links drag your rankings down. Some come from bad link building. Some show up on their own.

We find them. Casino links, adult links, odd foreign language pages, comment spam and repeated anchor text all get flagged. Cheap directory submission sites and paid posts from low grade guest post marketplaces show up often too.

If you’re looking for premium SaaS Directory websites. Check our 40+ SaaS Directory website article.

You get a disavow file and a plain note on why each link made the list.

Anchor Text Spread

We also read your anchor text. Too many exact match anchors look unnatural. Too few brand anchors look thin.

We show you the split and tell you what to change. Here is our own, and it is not pretty.

Most audits skip this step.

We open your Google Search Console data and look at the links Google has really crawled. Many links inside third party tools never get crawled. Some crawled links never appear in those tools at all.

Our own numbers make the point.

Google reports 313 external links to us. Ahrefs reports 341 referring domains. Close totals, but the lists barely overlap.

Producthunt.com and Reddit.com send us links that Google counts and the tool never showed us.

Why This Matters For AI Search Too?

ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity now answer questions on the page. They still lean on trust signals. Clean contextual backlinks from real sites help you get cited. Spam links do not.

So one clean-up wins twice. You can track those AI mentions as well.

We Ran This Audit On Our Own Site

Every number above came from backlinkcrm.io. We did not clean it up first.

Three of our top four anchors are Telegram spam. Our brand name sits fourth. Two referring domains carry a spam flag, and one still scores DR 67.

No dashboard warned us. A person reading the list found it. That is the whole argument for a manual audit.

Who This Audit Is For?

This is a good fit if you have bought links before and want to know what you really got. It also helps if your rankings slipped and you cannot see why.

Site owners taking over an old domain use it too. So do agencies who need a second opinion before they report to a client.

If you have never built a link, start with niche link building instead.

What You Get?

Every audit includes:

  • A full backlink profile review, link by link
  • Your strongest links, and why they work
  • A spam link list with a disavow file
  • An anchor text breakdown
  • Referring domain notes with DR, top pages and keywords
  • A Search Console crawl comparison
  • A short action plan in plain English

No dashboard to learn. Just a clear report in a spreadsheet and a half an hour to one hour call.

Want this every month instead of once? Ask on the call. We can also track your new links inside backlink management software once the clean-up is done.

How It Works?

  1. Book a quick consultation. Fifteen minutes on your site and your goals.
  2. Share read access to Google Search Console. We pull the rest ourselves.
  3. We audit your backlinks by hand. Your report lands in a few days.
  4. We walk you through it. You leave with a backlink plan.

What An Audit Costs?

Manual work is priced by the size of the job. Yours lands in one of three bands.

  • $100 — a small site with a clean, simple link profile
  • $200 — a growing site with a few hundred referring domains
  • $300 — thousands of referring domains, several languages, or a history of paid link building

We quote you on the call, before any work starts. No surprise fees.

Frequently Asked Questions

Start inside Google Search Console. Open the Links report and read your top linking sites. Then run your domain through a free backlink checker for more depth. You will end up with a long list. Knowing which links matter is the gap a manual review fills.

Once a quarter works for most sites. Check sooner if your rankings drop, if you have just bought links, or if you took over a site from someone else.

Yes, with the same method. Many clients add one or two rivals to see where the good links come from. Each extra domain costs a little more. To try it yourself first, here is how to find competitor backlinks.

Not always. Google ignores most low quality links on its own. We disavow when we see a clear pattern of paid or spammy links aimed at your money pages. You get our reasoning either way, plus the file if you want it.
